In the early 70’s the Missionary Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles under the guiding leadership of the 3rd Superior General , Sr.Mercedes Schowoediauer responded to the call by Late Bishop Emeritus Ignatius Lobo, to enter into Honavar. With the great vision of serving the people through a hospital and intense village outreach programmes the sisters had set foot in 1972 and the foundation for the new hospital was laid. The pioneers of the newly funded mission were Sr’s Bernadine, Aquilina, Hermingild and Digna. With support of the people of the locality and the hard work of the sisters, the hospital was constructed in Prabhatnagar, Honavar and was blessed and inaugurated on November 15, 1978. It was a dream come true! |
Since then St. Ignatius Hospital did not lack behind in their efforts to fulfill the mission entrusted to them through their committed and dedicated service along with the sisters and staff. The hospital has made constant effort to adapt and sustain itself with the changing times and to provide advanced medical care to the people. |
Despite constraints due to low financial and human resources the sisters were quick to respond to the needs of the people in terms of advanced medical care, quick diagnosis and immediate treatment. The motto ‘Medical Excellence for Service’ kept the flame burning. 30 years of struggle and excellent service, St. St Ignatius Hospital took a daring step to upgrade the institution into a multi-specialty hospital which was inaugurated on September 12, 2012 with the support of donors and well wishers. The efforts and intiative taken Sr. Maria Goretti SRA to actualize this vision and her contribution towards the up-gradation of the Hospital are truly acknowledged. |
Today St. Ignatius Hospital is reaching medical care services to the people living in Honavar and the neighbouring areas. It is the result of the hard work and service of the pioneering sisters and all the then doctors, nurses, staff and the people of goodwill who have collaborated with the management since the past 36 years. |
